NiD4OCEAN invites students, SMEs, researchers and innovators to take part in a webinar on Wednesday 19 June at 13:00 CET, where we will present the NiD4OCEAN Open Innovation Challenge.

This session will introduce the aims and scope of the challenge, which focuses on advancing nature-inclusive concepts for floating offshore wind infrastructure — a growing field where ecological design solutions remain limited. An open Q&A, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with the NiD4OCEAN team, will follow the presentation.

Secure your place by registering for the webinar here.

Why it matters

While bottom-fixed offshore wind has seen increasing integration of nature-inclusive measures, floating offshore wind remains underexplored. Through this challenge, NiD4OCEAN seeks innovative concepts that:

  • Mitigate negative environmental impacts, and/or
  • Restore or enhance specific species or habitats

Proposed solutions may relate to floating wind farms, or to associated infrastructure such as grid connections or subsea platforms. Concepts should address ecological challenges within European sea basins and consider feasibility, scalability and cost-effectiveness.

Why participate

All submissions will receive feedback from a multidisciplinary panel of NiD4OCEAN partners, including developers, contractors and research institutes.

Selected concepts will benefit from:

  • Support to progress their development up to Technology Readiness Level 4 (TRL 4)
  • The opportunity to showcase at a NiD4OCEAN side event during the WindEurope Annual Event 2026 in Madrid

This is a chance to bring ecological thinking into the heart of offshore renewable energy design.
