On 5 June 2026, NiD4OCEAN researcher Juan Carlos Pardo carried out an outreach activity at Arendal International School, His, Norway.
The session was delivered to Grade 9 students and focused on how human-made infrastructure interacts with biodiversity and nature. Through this discussion, students explored both the challenges and opportunities involved in making infrastructure more inclusive of marine life and natural processes.
The lecture also introduced the concept of nature-inclusive design, drawing on the knowledge and outcomes being developed within NiD4OCEAN. By connecting project research with real-world examples, the activity helped students reflect on how offshore renewable energy and other forms of infrastructure can be planned in ways that better consider the ecosystems around them.
The students were highly engaged throughout the session, making the activity a valuable opportunity to bring NiD4OCEAN’s work closer to younger audiences and encourage early conversations about biodiversity, sustainability, and the future of ocean infrastructure.
