The first NiD4OCEAN University Challenge at the University of Agder (UiA), held on 22–23 August 2025, has successfully concluded, bringing together bachelor’s and PhD students from diverse disciplines to develop innovative, nature-inclusive concepts for floating offshore wind.
Over two days, teams worked in interdisciplinary groups, supported by experts from NiD4OCEAN and the University with expertise in marine science, renewables, and material science, alongside industry representatives from Equinor, and colleagues from NySkaping, the UiA’s Innovation Support Team, tackling ecological challenges linked to offshore renewables.
The winning team, including students from engineering sciences, information and communication technology, and management and innovation, presented a novel concept for floating structures and associated infrastructure. Their design will now be showcased at WindEurope 2026 in Madrid.
Stay tuned for more challenges to come, including the upcoming edition at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona from 6–13 October 2025, where students will focus on reusing mooring systems to support marine biodiversity in the Gulf of Lion.
