The annual meeting of the Norwegian Association of Marine Scientists (Havforskermøtet) took place in Arendal from 24 to 26 November, bringing together researchers and stakeholders to discuss this year’s theme: “The effects of pollution and other human impacts on marine nature.” The event provided a forum to explore how human activities affect marine ecosystems and what can be done to mitigate these impacts.
Among the participants was NID4OCEAN partner Juan Pardo, who presented a poster highlighting the project’s commitment to advancing the emerging field of nature-inclusive designs (NiDs) for offshore renewables. The poster emphasized NiDs as modifications to offshore infrastructure that aim to enhance biodiversity by promoting or regenerating local ecosystems. These innovative solutions aim to simultaneously meet decarbonization and biodiversity goals to support a just and sustainable energy transition.
NiD4OCEAN is addressing critical knowledge gaps in the field, particularly around the long-term performance of NiDs in offshore wind farms and is working to develop science-based guidelines and standards for NiD implementation.
Participation in Havforskermøtet offered a valuable opportunity for the project to engage with the Norwegian marine science community, exchange knowledge, and build collaborations that support the project’s mission to develop innovative, nature-inclusive solutions for offshore environments.
